Today marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another for Ward Farnsworth. Tomorrow, he will become the new dean of the School of Law at the University of Texas at Austin, bringing to a close his 15-year career at BU?s School of Law, where he taught and served as the associate dean for academic affairs.
?It was a very hard decision,? says Farnsworth, a LAW professor and Nancy E. Barton Scholar. ?I spent a lot of time trying to figure out whether the opportunity was valuable enough to be worth leaving the school that I have such good feelings for and this region too. But sometimes opportunity knocks when you don?t expect it, and off you go.?
Farnsworth joined the LAW faculty in 1997 and taught civil procedure, torts, contracts, and rhetoric. He has received many awards over the years, including the University-wide United Methodist Church Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award in 2009. An author and researcher, he has published in multiple legal journals, coauthored Torts: Cases and Questions, and written The Legal Analyst: A Toolkit for Thinking about the Law, Farnsworth?s Classical English Rhetoric, and two online volumes on chess. Three years ago he was named the school?s associate dean.
?Since joining the BU law faculty in 1997, Ward Farnsworth has been a dedicated teacher, scholar, and administrator for our law school,? says Maureen O?Rourke, dean of LAW. ?His students have benefited from his wisdom and guidance, and his faculty colleagues have enjoyed both his tremendous legal intellect and his quick wit.
?As the dean, I?ve been grateful for Ward?s insightful advice and unwavering commitment to our students,? O?Rourke adds. ?While we are saddened by Ward?s departure, we are honored that he continues BU Law?s long tradition of producing leaders in legal education.?
Farnsworth says he?s known that he wanted to teach since his early days as a law student at the University of Chicago. But professorships are hard to come by for inexperienced law graduates, so he began amassing an impressive legal r?sum?, first by clerking for Richard A. Posner, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and then for Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy. (A bobblehead replica of Kennedy stood on his office bookshelf.) Farnsworth later served as a legal advisor to the Iran?United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague. Only then did he land his first teaching position?as an associate professor at BU.
?I felt very fortunate to have the chance to come get started here at a school that has a great culture of both scholarship and teaching,? Farnsworth says.
He has enjoyed the classroom experience and especially BU?s ?energetic and good-natured? students. He found community among his colleagues and felt supported by superiors. And as associate dean, he contributed to planning the school?s upcoming renovation, which will add classrooms and community space for students.
Leaving BU had not been on his mind, Farnsworth says, until UT invited him to apply for the position of law school dean. ?I was attracted to the opportunity because I?ve been associate dean, and I enjoyed the work,? he says. ?I thought that being a dean would be an interesting and exciting challenge in the right circumstance. And I decided this was the right circumstance.?
Farnsworth?s new job is not without its challenges. UT?s law school is bigger, both in terms of faculty and students?with two-thirds required to be Texas residents. As dean, he will also have to tackle some immediate fence-mending; the last dean resigned because of faculty unrest over compensation practices, complaints about sexual discrimination, and questions over the use of funds from the private law school foundation.
?It?s true that there are some divisions on the faculty about certain aspects of the way the place is run,? Farnsworth says. ?One of my first jobs will be to try to bring peace to the school on those dimensions.?
The Illinois native says he and his family have never lived in Texas, but they are approaching the big move with an adventurous spirit. ?I?m hoping that my experience with harsh Northeastern winters helped prepare me for the harsh Texas summers,? Farnsworth says. And he?s accentuating the positive to his kids. ?I?ve got a 10-year-old son who loves soccer and he?s looking forward to being able to play it in February.?

The Wait is Over ? 21st Century Personal Finance Tools Have Finally Arrived!
Rochester, NY (PRWEB) May 31, 2012
With tens of millions of Americans struggling with consumer debt burdens and millions trying to save their homes from foreclosure, it is shocking that 19th Century personal finance tools remain the primary option for distressed households. Indeed, the lack of precise and realistic money management tools characterizes the personal finance education industry that is dominated by private banks, credit unions, higher education, nonprofit foundations, personal finance gurus, and especially federal and state government agencies. Even the President?s Advisory Council on Financial Capability has ignored its leadership responsibility to develop and promote more accurate and innovative approaches to personal finance in general and household budgeting in particular. Americans need and deserve so much more during this period of economic uncertainty.
The key question is why are financial institutions and even public agencies continuing to use antiquated personal finance software/methods and related budgeting/money management curricula rather than more practical approaches that address the complexity of contemporary household finances? In particular, why are American households encouraged to use gross income assessment tools when their economic reality is that household expenses must be paid from net income? Is there a reason that these personal finance tools provide the illusion of greater financial control and yet lead the average American to higher levels of consumption and ultimately consumer debt?
With this ongoing leadership crisis in the personal finance education industry, the DebtorWise Foundation is pleased to announce the release of its pathbreaking, net cash-flow budgeting/ personal finance Credit Counseling course that is based on the IRS 1040 federal tax guidelines. Rather than a ?one size fits all? approach to personal finance with its inherent imprecision, the DebtorWise Foundation?s money management software/curriculum enable consumers to: (a) specify the unique economic characteristics of their household, (b) calculate their monthly net income, and (c) customize a household budget based on the financial constraints of their net cash-flow. The key features include household size/structure, tax filing status, and state and local income tax liabilities. Furthermore, the DWF budgeting software is accompanied with a state-of-the art document management/data verification system.
According to Dr. Anita Butera, Esq, Director of Bankruptcy Education, ?it is striking that Americans are berated over their lack of personal finance skills. Yet, the so-called experts promote personal finance tools that are more appropriate for the age of the horse and buggy than the Ipad generation. At DebtorWise, we have harnessed the scholarly vision and academic precision of our founder?Dr. Robert D. Manning ?to better serve those Americans that desperately need our practical guidance and innovative budgeting software/courses/assistance.?
As Dr. Butera explains, ?Imagine trying to develop a budget based on gross income that ignores state and local taxes, itemized tax deductions, and even homeowner status. You can easily overestimate available household income to pay monthly expenses by 20% ? 25%. And, try evaluating whether a mortgage modification is affordable when you don?t know the net cost of lower loan (tax deductible) interest rates. No wonder so many hard working families are confused over balancing their budget ?with gross income?when they realize that they don?t have enough money to pay their bills at the end of the month! Is it surprising that so many people give up on their personal finances?? With the goal of bridging this informational deficiency, the DebtorWise Foundation is offering the first net cash-flow budgeting curriculum that is based on the IRS 1040 federal tax guidelines.
The DebtorWise Foundation is the nation?s leading innovator in online financial education courses and personal finance software. Founded by Dr. Manning, an internationally recognized consumer finance scholar, the DebtorWise Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable financial education to financially distressed and low-income households. It provides the pre-filing Credit Counseling and pre-discharge Debtor Education courses that are required by the Federal Court for filing consumer bankruptcy. Dr. Manning?s most recent monograph examines Walmart?s expansion into consumer financial services in the United States with a case-study of Banco Walmart de Mexico.

When my partner?s father began making substantial gains in his investment portfolio from the advice he got from some top personal finance newsletters, I started to do some research to find one that combined solid economic predictions with sound investing advice. What I knew was that what I?d learned from Wall Street wasn?t cutting it.And what we?d all learned in school sure wasn?t creating any millionaires in my circle of business associates or friends. Intuitively, I knew that there was something that the wealthy few knew that I didn?t.What I wanted was a reliable financial newsletter that included the in-depth education and money management strategies that have made insiders in the investment world wealthy for years.Traditional investment strategies were outdated ? I needed to know exactly how successful investors thought and bought. What I found were three ?must-haves? when searching for a stable financial newsletter:1. A reliable personal finance newsletter needs to include the in-depth education and money management strategies that have made insiders in the investment world wealthy for years. The super wealthy are wealthy for a reason; and it?s not because they are following the same investment advice that the masses have been taught. They know something most don?t, and if you want to generate the wealth that they do, you need to have access to what they know.2. It had to include investment tips from proven experts in the investment arena. Two such experts are Kip Herriage and Gerald Celente, consistently accurate with their investment predictions for twenty and thirty years respectively. That?s the kind of record you need to look for. Many investors who relied on their advice during the crash of 2008 doubled their earnings in as little as a year just by following their investment advice. Going even further back, when Kip correctly predicted the dot com bust in 1999, investors who acted on his advice were able to hedge their assets in more secure investment avenues and managed to keep their nest eggs safe without substantial losses to their portfolios.3. It?s important to note that as with any legitimate newsletter, the resources and education garnered there are purely educational in value. As a responsible investor, you then should consult your own investment firm or broker that you?ve established a relationship with and make your transactions through them. Many economic experts are forecasting a major shakeup with a global redistribution of wealth that is going to affect everyone who is not positioned for this event. To protect and grow your assets before and during the crash that is coming, a reputable personal finance newsletter is not an option; it?s mandatory.Wise investors who are pro-active will survive and come out as the minority who successfully profit.

MIAMI (AP) ? George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer charged with murder in the killing of Trayvon Martin, surrendered to police Sunday and was booked into a central Florida jail two days after his bond was revoked.
Zimmerman's legal team said in a tweet Sunday afternoon that he was in police custody. Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester revoked Zimmerman's bond on Friday, saying the defendant and his wife had lied to the court in April about their finances so he could obtain a lower bond.
About 40 minutes before the 2:30 p.m. Sunday deadline to surrender, the Seminole County jail website listed Zimmerman as an inmate. He was being held without bail and had $500 in his jail account, the website showed.
Seminole County Sheriff Donald Eslinger said Zimmerman turned himself in to two sheriff's office employees around 1:25 p.m. near the jail, and was then driven there. Zimmerman arrived in a white minivan and did not respond to questions from reporters as he walked inside, handcuffed and wearing blue jeans, sneakers and a button-down shirt.
"He is quiet and cooperative," Eslinger said at a news conference after Zimmerman's surrender.
The sheriff's office said the 28-year-old Zimmerman would be in a cell by himself, separated from the general population, because the case is so high-profile. The 67-square-foot cell is equipped with a toilet, two beds, a mattress, a pillow, a blanket and bed sheets. Zimmerman will not have access to a TV.
Prosecutors said last week that Zimmerman and his wife told the judge at a bond hearing in April that they had limited money, even though he had raised about $135,000 through a website set up for his legal defense. They suggested more has been collected since and deposited in a bank account. Defense attorneys say the matter is a misunderstanding.
The judge said Friday he would schedule a hearing after Zimmerman was back in custody so he could explain himself.
Defense attorney Mark O'Mara announced earlier Sunday on his website that Zimmerman had arrived in Florida late Saturday evening ahead of his surrender.
Zimmerman, who was charged in April with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of the 17-year-old Martin in Sanford, was ordered by a judge Friday to return to jail. After his release, Zimmerman stayed at an undisclosed location for his safety.
Zimmerman's legal team said Sunday that they will ask for a new bond hearing to address the judge's concerns, and that they hope Zimmerman's voluntary surrender will show he is not a flight risk.
The money that Zimmerman has raised is in an independent trust and cannot be directly accessed by Zimmerman or his attorneys, according to the press release.
He has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge. He maintains that he shot Martin in self-defense under Florida's so-called "stand your ground" law because the teen, who was unarmed, was beating him up. Zimmerman claims the teenager had confronted the then-neighborhood watch volunteer about following Martin in a gated community in Sanford, about 25 miles northwest of Orlando.
Zimmerman had called 911 to complain about suspicious activity. Martin was walking from a convenience store to the home of his father's fianc?e in the same gated community where Zimmerman lived.
Legal experts say Zimmerman's credibility could become an issue at trial, noting that the case hinges on jurors believing Zimmerman's account of what happened the night in February when Martin was killed.
Police in Sanford did not immediately arrest Zimmerman, citing the Florida stand-your-ground law that gives wide latitude to the use of deadly force in an altercation if someone believes he or she is in danger of being killed or seriously injured.
Protests were held across the nation, and the case spurred an emotional debate about whether race was a factor in Zimmerman's actions and in the initial police handling of the case. Martin was black; Zimmerman's father is white and his mother is from Peru.
A special prosecutor eventually brought charges against Zimmerman, and he was arrested 44 days after the killing.
Zimmerman's wife, Shellie, was asked about the website at the bond hearing, but she said she didn't know how much money had been raised. The judge set bail at $150,000. George Zimmerman was freed a few days later after posting $15,000 in cash ? which is typical.
Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda complained Friday, "This court was led to believe they didn't have a single penny. It was misleading and I don't know what words to use other than it was a blatant lie." The judge agreed and ordered Zimmerman returned to jail by Sunday afternoon.
The defense countered that Zimmerman and his wife never used the money for anything, which indicated "there was no deceit."
Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin's parents ? Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton ? said his clients have always said Zimmerman should remain in jail until trial.

Facebook is letting its nearly 1 billion users vote on changes to its privacy policy.
The previously announced changes include new sections explaining how it uses people's information. The updates also reflect recently added features such as a new profile format called Timeline.
The new policy also opens up the possibility for Facebook to start showing people ads on outside websites, targeting the pitches to interests and hobbies that users express on Facebook.
The voting period starts Friday and runs through next week. The company had announced the changes in May, a week before its initial public offering of stock. Facebook's highly anticipated IPO landed with a thud, closing just 23 cents above its $38 offering price on its first trading day. The stock has declined another 26 percent in the two weeks since then.
This is the second time Facebook Inc. is letting users vote on policy changes. The first time was in 2009 when Facebook was a much smaller, privately held company with fewer than 200 million users.
It may be the last time, though.
Thirty percent of Facebook's 900 million users, or 270 million people, have to vote on the changes ? for or against ? to have the process be binding. Otherwise, Facebook considers the vote "advisory."
That will most likely be the case. Facebook's experiment in democracy hasn't panned out as expected. While thousands of people have left comments on Facebook's proposed changes, "our original intent was to get high-quality," and not high-quantity comments, said Erin Egan, Facebook's chief privacy officer of policy.
Facebook said it is still interested in getting user feedback on its policies, but it is reviewing how best to do so.
"While our participatory mechanisms may change, our commitment to greater transparency, accountability and responsiveness will not," Facebook vice president Elliot Schrage wrote in a blog post. "We will explore ways to bring user suggestions and concerns before Facebook's management."

First, a fairly good essay for laying out the basic arguments without falling into the ?eww icky? trap like so many do, except this still irritated me just because of her language choices. I mean, let?s face it, if I gave this to just about any one of my peers to read, they?d call her a bigoted-bad-word and discount the whole thing entirely.
Obama? ?Gay Marriage? is NOT Marriage. Here?s Why By Monica Migliorino Miller, Ph.D.
But there is a bit in the middle that?s basically the crux of the matter, without getting too heavy on the holding-nose-while-using-the-word-homosexual-all-the-time thing:
If the bond between two men or two women may be considered the equivalent of the one-flesh marital unity between a man and a woman, a bond that gives rise to the family, we are then saying that all human ties are strictly a matter of the will?only when persons choose to be connected to one another?by emotional, legal or artificial contrivance? that they are then connected. And if the fundamental building block of society, namely the family, is essentially a matter of choice, those choices can be undone by personal will. The family simply becomes an arrangement of the will?no one is in essence a mother, a father, a husband or wife. The family unit is turned into a mere fragile arrangement of personal volition. Indeed, being a husband or wife, mother or father is nominal, not real.
The family is no longer a unit cemented by innate natural familial bonds that actually cause persons to be mother and child, brother and sister?essential identities embedded in nature itself that produce innate responsibilities to which persons who have such identities must be held accountable. Nothing here should be interpreted to mean that sterile couples who adopt children are not parents. Their heterosexual marital unity, unlike ?gay marriage? participates in the truth of marriage and is a public sign of that truth. Their sexual unity is oriented towards life in a way that ?gay marriage? can never be. ?
Society is not the consequence of arbitrary self-willed human relationships. Marriage is the first building block that creates, not only brothers and sisters, but future marriages that produce cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, grandfathers, grandmothers, great grandfathers and mothers, as well as great uncles and aunts. Laws do not create these worlds?innate natural bonds create these worlds?worlds that of themselves cause human identity and human responsibilities. Absolutely nothing can replace such natural world-building! And the law cannot create the moral responsibilities that come from such bonds?it can only call persons to live up to them! Again, for this reason, government has an interest in protecting marriage.
Maybe the thing that gets on my nerves about most writings about the topic is that it always focuses on how unworthy the gay relationships are, and never on the details of traditional marriage that we?re supposed to be focused on. So, here?s this last bit, which will segue nicely into the next article:
How did we come to this point?that homosexual bonds should be considered the equivalent of marriage? The truth must be told. It is indeed the heterosexual community that is to blame, not homosexuals. Heterosexuals have given up on the meaning of human sexuality. Heterosexuals are the ones who no longer believe in marriage. We have said so with 50 years of contraception, unquestioned sexual activity outside of marriage, living together without marriage, rampant divorce, including no-fault divorce, rampant out-of-wedlock pregnancies, artificial reproduction?and then add to this? 40 years of abortion. Heterosexuals have already said that sex, marriage and the family have no meaning?they become what we subjectively, privately, by a sheer matter of the will, say they are?and nothing more. We simply have no moral, cultural place to stand upon which we may say that homosexuals can?t call what they do ?marriage.?
I mean, read the whole thing, just rewrite it if you want to show it to anyone who isn?t a nun with a slightly sour look on her face.
So, next:
WaPo ? Isabel Sawhill: Bringing up baby alone
On May 19, 1992, as the presidential campaign season was heating up, Vice President Dan Quayle delivered a family-values speech that came to define him nearly as much as his spelling talents. Speaking at the Commonwealth Club of California, he chided Murphy Brown ? the fictional 40-something, divorced news anchor played by Candice Bergen on a CBS sitcom ? for her decision to have a child outside of marriage.
?Bearing babies irresponsibly is simply wrong,? the vice president said. ?Failing to support children one has fathered is wrong. We must be unequivocal about this. It doesn?t help matters when prime-time TV has Murphy Brown, a character who supposedly epitomizes today?s intelligent, highly paid professional woman, mocking the importance of fathers by bearing a child alone and calling it just another lifestyle choice.?
Quayle?s argument ? that Brown was sending the wrong message, that single parenthood should not be encouraged ? erupted into a major campaign controversy. And just a few weeks before the ?92 vote, the show aired portions of his speech and had characters react to it.
?Perhaps it?s time for the vice president to expand his definition and recognize that, whether by choice or circumstance, families come in all shapes and sizes,? Bergen?s character said.
Her fictional colleague Frank, meanwhile, echoed some of the national reaction: ?It?s Dan Quayle ? forget about it!?
Twenty years later, Quayle?s words seem less controversial than prophetic.
Etc. Oh the times, they are a-changin.
Meanwhile babies are being murdered one-by-one by government thugs in Syria (article free, for now), and 160 female students are being poisoned in their Afghan school, for the second time in a week.
Oh, and, just for kicks, video of ?Black church leaders? reacting to the question if gay marriage is the same as the civil rights struggle of the 1960s.
As a Webmaster, you are forever searching for ways to make more money from your website. One of the better ways to do this is to add or link some self improvement concepts into the contents. Many webmasters have found that there are a few key programs they can add on their sites for which they can honestly expect to make a few extra dollars, a few hundred extra dollars, and in some cases, a few thousand extra dollars every month. The trick to linking income from third-party programs is to carefully select programs that are relevant to your site visitors, while insuring that the program you promote does not directly compete with your own offerings. If you are giving something to your visitors that they will find useful, above and beyond your normal offerings that is considered an ?added value? item. Not only will it give your customers something they appreciate, it will help them grow closer to you as a business owner. That way, there will appear a link between you and the customers to pave the way for improvement. This is helpful in accelerating the trust level that your customers have with you and your business which can only serve you well over the long term. By adding this foundation of trust, your visitors will come back to your site and buy from you again because they know that they can trust you to treat them well.On the web, more so than in brick-and-mortar, the trust factor is the most important hurdle that the small business owner must overcome with his potential customers. There are so many scams and rip-offs on the web, that an honest soul is especially appreciated. It is important to select your ?added value? offerings based on the interests of your web site visitors. The closer your offerings are to the needs of your target market, the more successful you will become selling your added value products. If your website is concerned with self-improvement, self-esteem, dating, relationships, love or marriage, then you could do very well for yourself promoting the e-book, ?How To Identify Your Soulmate.?Love relationships are failing in an alarming rate. In order to help as many people find happiness and self improvement. Years of research on love relationships would not be enough to understand these things. Why do some fail and why some succeed? No matter the specifics of the situation the reader may be in, ?How To Identify Your Soulmate? can assist people in their quest to achieve success in their love relationships.Products and services, which are relevant to the people who already visit your website and do not conflict or compete with your current offerings, are ideally suited to allow you to deliver added value offerings to your visitors. These added offerings will help you to build the trust level that your visitors have with you. Not to mention that they will also help you add new layers of profitability to your website. In the end, you should always strive to prepare your ezine or website to deliver more dollars. Target those people who want to have more than just material things in life. In today?s highly competitive internet universe, the importance of attracting highly targeted traffic to your website cannot be overemphasized. Routing web traffic to your site can be your only means of survival, especially in the cutthroat world of ecommerce. Getting a high search engine ranking can be very difficult. Fortunately, there is plethora of website promotion strategies you can use to drive traffic to your website.
There is a wide variety of strategies you can adapt, from paid advertising to affiliate marketing. However, most of these techniques require payment. Nevertheless, there are ways to promote your website and increase your web traffic without spending anything. Writing articles is one of the best web site promotion strategies you can use, and they can be very effective. How, you may ask, can writing articles help improve your web traffic? Here are the top seven ways in which it can help explode your business.
1.Reach more people
When you write good articles, it would be a shame not to share them with other people. You can post your articles in your website or you can submit them to other sites such as e-zines and online publishers. By submitting your articles to these sites, you give exposure not only to your ideas but also to your website. Simply include a link back to your site or include your information in the resource box. With this, you get exposure and free advertising as well. Submit your articles to popular e-zines and take advantage of their popularity. Other sites who find your article relevant may also link back to you. Thus, you increase your link popularity, which is one of the most important strategies in the internet world. Remember that most people are looking for information online and by filling this need with your quality article; you may reap the benefit of more exposure and higher web traffic.
2.Free Advertising For Your Site
Submitting your articles to other websites presents an opportunity to advertise your website without paying exorbitant fees. Although you should avoid marketing language in your articles and make it informative and useful to your readers, you can always include your site?s link in the resource box. In addition, by making your article relevant and helpful to your readers, you are making a good impression for your website, which could ultimately lead to a visit and hopefully a purchase. Good quality content in an article is far better and more effective than a few lines of ad space. You have a very special opportunity to presell your product or service to your prospective customer.
3.Gain High Search Engine Ranking
Create a new web page for your article in your website. Optimize your article to make it search-engine friendly. Use top-ranked keywords and Meta tags that can give your website a high search engine ranking. As soon as you upload your new webpage to your server, search engines will spider through it and you can gain an increase in search engine ranking. Remember that search engine optimized content is a very effective strategy to gain a high ranking in search results.
4.Increases Link Popularity
Instead of looking for other sites who would want to establish reciprocal links with your site, you can simply submit an article to other sites. Just do not forget to include a link to your site in your resource box. When these websites pick up and publishes your article, you automatically get a link partner. Try to get as many link partners as you can. Link popularity is one of the factors used by search engines in determining search engine rankings. Make your article especially useful and appealing, so that more websites will be encouraged to publish it.
5.Optimizes your site for improved search engine ranking
By making your site keyword rich, you can greatly improve the your search engine ranking. Remember that keyword density is one of the most important factors that search engines use when determining the search engine ranking of site. However, you should always provide relevant, useful and pertinent information. Avoid the temptation of overusing keywords just to gain a high ranking as this may turn off most web surfers. Relevance and quality is still the most important things to consider when writing articles.
6.Establishes a Good Impression and Reputation
By writing excellent, original and relevant articles, you not only give your site exposure, you are also creating a good impression on your prospects. Encourage more people to visit your site and do business with you by establishing an impressive reputation through your articles. Be seen as an expert in the field and your will ultimately gain more customers eager to do business with you.
7.Enhances your credibility through references and testimonies
Certainly, your articles are going to receive feedbacks and testimonies when you publish them in e-zines and free article sites. Record these positive feedbacks and comments and use them as promotional material in your website or in any of your advertising efforts. Your credibility will be greatly enhanced by these feedbacks, as it will create a good impression on your prospects as well as your existing customers. In this highly competitive world, excellent credibility and trust may be the only things you need to attract new customers or make loyal patrons out of your existing customers. Original, relevant, useful and pertinent articles are important tools you should utilize to improve and explode your business

MEDFORD/SOMERVILLE, Mass. Monitoring weather factors like temperature, rain, and snowfall is one way to predict the timing and intensity of rotavirus, a disease that causes extreme diarrhea, dehydration and thousands of death annually, particularly among children.
In a paper published May 31 in the journal PLoS One, a research team led by Elena Naumova, Ph.D., professor of civil and environmental engineering at Tufts School of Engineering, correlated temperature and precipitation with rotavirus outbreaks in one of the hardest- hit regions of the world, South Asia.
In 2004, rotavirus resulted in 527,000 deaths worldwide in children younger than five years, the study noted. The majority of deaths are clustered in poor areas of developing countries in Africa and Asia. Being able to predict infection increases opportunities for health professionals to take effective preventive measures such as vaccination that could substantially reduce deaths.
Naumova's research focuses on developing methodology for analysis of large databases to enhance disease surveillance. In this study the team examined seasonal differences in the environment by creating mathematical models based on factors such as temperature, humidity and precipitation in the region over 22 years.
"We found that rotavirus is sensitive to seasonal patterns that are defined as a combined effect of temperature and precipitation," said Naumova, who is senior author of the study. This work builds on Naumova's previous research developing mathematical models to predict the timing, severity, and impact of diseases. "Our goal is to develop an integrated model which will allow monitoring the virus and also forecasting outbreaks."
Naumova and the research team analyzed monthly rates of rotavirus from 39 published epidemiological studies that were conducted on outbreaks between 1988 and 2010.
In this new model, the researchers considered meteorological characteristics based on data from the National Climatic Data Center and the Global Historical Climatology Network to classify four geographic regions in South Asiamoist tropical climates; arid and semiarid; humid, mid-latitude areas, and cold temperature areas.
The incidence of rotavirus throughout Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka was higher during the coldest, driest months of the yearfrom December to March--the study indicated. Increases in temperature and precipitation in other parts of the year resulted in lower levels of the virus. Patterns were consistent across the geographical regions, though the fluctuations varied in intensity.
Additionally, the researchers found an association between rotavirus and vegetation density. Using remote sensing data derived from satellite images produced by moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS), a sensor on NASA's Terra satellite, the researchers were able to monitor and measure the amount of fresh vegetation across the region. A second source of remote sensing data was provided by the Global Inventory Monitoring and Mapping Studies (GIMMS).
The images were processed using mathematical techniques for turning satellite data into vegetation growth measurements. Researchers were able to measure changes in vegetation from 2000 to 2007. An analysis of data associated decreases of vegetation with an increase in the virus.
