We all exercise for different reasons, and as a result, we all aim for different outcomes. Some of us are all into the health side of things, but the truth is that except for achieving the obvious health benefits and increased energy levels, we start setting higher goals, like getting a six pack, or toning up our buttocks. ?It is a well-known fact that such a goal requires a good combination of exercise and eating habits that make sure your body fat percentage stays at a level that allows your muscles to show. This sounds simple enough, but some of us have learned the hard way that in reality, the road to success is far more bumpy. Especially for women, whose bodies are structured slightly differently than men?s bodies, and losing those last layers of body fat can be a seriously tough job. This is the reason why some people eventually get there, and some people don?t. If you wish to be one from the first group of people, then read on.
In my personal development journey (which includes keeping my body in good shape, too), I have been surprised to discover how few of the trainers and nutritionists pay attention to the psychological side of getting the body of your dreams. On the other hand, recent studies show that it is much easier for someone to reach their fitness goals if they manage to get some visible results quickly. This immediately pumps up their level of motivation, and ensures they stick to their workout routine, and most importantly ? they manage to keep good eating habits for a prolonged periods of time.
This is where meditation comes in ? it is the secret ingredient that will make your progress that much quicker. I call it meditation, but there are many forms in which this comes ? concentration, visualization, and even a new technology, called brainwave entrainment, which literally programs your mind into adopting good eating and exercise habits. But let?s first explain why working on your mind will give you faster and better results on your body.
Meditation Helps Motivation
Too many people fail before they have even started, because they lack motivation. As I stressed earlier, recent studies show that slow progress is not the best way to success ? if a person gets visible results within the first week or two of exercising and eating healthy, they are more likely to stick with that lifestyle and finally reach their goals. This becomes much easier when one gets involved with a meditation practice of any kind. Practicing a meditation technique helps you keep your mind focused on your goals and also helps you free yourself of any destructive thoughts that may be preventing you to even get started with that workout you had in mind. How many times have you come back from work, and said ? I am too stressed to work out? Engaging with a simple meditation technique even for 5-10 minutes a day can make your progress that much quicker, because it will alleviate any unnecessary stress or doubts that may be preventing you from getting started.
Meditation Stops Emotional Eating
We all know that one of the main hindrances to reaching a low level of body fat percentage is our relationship with food. Even if we eat healthy most of the time, a couple of ?bursts? of emotional eating per week can ruin everything. The main source of emotional eating, again, is stress. It can also be linked to the feelings of loneliness, boredom, anxiety, frustration, and others. Funnily enough, some emotional eaters do this as a reward (as a result of extremely positive emotions). No matter what your reason is, there are many simple, easy-to-do techniques that help you manage your emotions and quickly alleviate the problem. Mastering one or two of these, and committing only a few minutes each day can literally skyrocket your fitness success.
Meditation Improves Your Self Image
You may have heard this too many times ? ?think yourself thin?. No matter how overused that is, it is worth reminding you that it?s 100% true. Sometimes the only reason why you can?t reach your goals is that your body is ?holding on? to that fat. You have your ?past body? stuck into your subconscious mind, which makes it hard for you to give your progress some fair credit. Such a frame of mind really slows or completely stops your progress, and this is where a lot of people eventually give up. Learning a few positive affirmations or visualization techniques turns all that around. It immediately gets you into the confident, positive self-image zone that, again, speeds up your progress, and is a guarantee that you will eventually get what you want. The question is ? are you ready for it?
