We're a little past fall, but I always enjoy a little fresh or hard apple cider and thought this was a clever concept. You can create your own apple cups by slicing off the top of an apple and carefully removing the interior apple flesh and core with a spoon or melon baller.
Baking weblog Gimme Some Oven has detailed photographs that show you where to cut and how much apple you need to leave at the edges. If you're having a few friends over for a cocktail I think these would be an interesting way to serve drinks along with the cucumber shot glasses we covered earlier.
I like to make a simple applejack type drink by mixing 3 parts apple cider with 2 parts Jack Daniels. Add a pinch of nutmeg and stir with a cinnamon stick. It's a great warm pick-me-up on a cold evening.
